Welcome to the new edition of the Green Gas Wire, your go-to source for the latest insights, trends, and updates on the European biogases value chain. The EU's probably most expected initiative on this first quarter of the year, theClean Industrial Deal, is out. This ambitious plan is set to revolutionise the industrial landscape by driving competitiveness and decarbonisation across Europe.
What's EBA's take on this? If the Deal is to deliver lasting European sustainability and competitiveness, providing a clear pathway for the fast rollout of biogases is a straightforward and fully homegrown available solution. In fact, EBA’s latest data show that the production of biogases was equivalent to 7% of EU gas consumption already in 2023 and can meet over 80% of the EU’s forecasted gas consumption in 2040.
1. Biogases are also the swiftest way to bolster the EU’s strategic autonomy and disentangle from fossil gas dependencies.
2. Europe is championing the production of biogas technologies right now, delivering EU’s leadership on clean technologies at global level. The production and use of homegrown renewable energy is vital to deliver a cost-efficient and resilient transition to net zero.
3. Besides, biogases are enablers of much needed grid flexibility: complementing the use of green electricity from variable energy sources with the most scalable and cost-competitive renewable gas. This will definitely enable the EU to decarbonise faster.
4. Biogases are circularity boosters: they are produced from waste and their production originates other co-products (organic fertiliser and biogenic CO2), providing sustainable alternatives to their fossil counterparts.
Staying ahead of latest trends can feel like a challenge, but don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. In this edition of the Green Gas Wire we’re bringing you top stories, exclusive interviews, groundbreaking research, and everything you need to stay on top of the latest trends. Curious?
